Manga detailing the life of Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii in educational, “RPG-style” to release on February 24

Published by Shogakukan, the biographical manga was supervised by Yuji Horii himself. The story focuses predominantly on his work on Dragon Quest.

A biographical manga chronicling the life of Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii is set to release on February 24. Titled “Dragon Quest Creator Yuji Horii: New Educational Manga Biography” (unofficial translation), the Shogakukan publication is a semi-dramatized retelling of Horii’s journey from a young boy born on Awaji Island to his current position as one of the world’s most influential game designers and writers.

While Horii has worked on other projects such as the Mysteries trilogy and Chrono Trigger, the manga focuses predominantly on on how he created the Dragon Quest franchise. As such, elements of his life are portrayed in an RPG-like fashion, with Horii “encountering companions who become his greatest strengths,” “making choices at life’s crossroads,” and “facing various hardships.” Horii’s philosophy, that “life is a role-playing game,” is reflected throughout the manga, making it suitable for both children and adults alike.

Illustrated by Iori Makoto and supervised by Horii himself, Dragon Quest Creator Yuji Horii: New Educational Manga Biography is 160 pages long and features an interview with Horii at the end. Preorders are priced at 1,210 JPY (roughly $ 7.81 USD). There is currently no news about an English translation.
