GREE revealed in their latest financial results briefing that their upcoming PC and mobile title Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Magia Exedra is continuing to attract far more pre-registered users than they expected. The game is an RPG adaptation of the popular magical girl anime by Magica Quartet.
Originally slated for a 2024 launch, Puella Magi Madoka: Magia Exedra is now coming out in Spring 2025. At the end of January 2025, it had more than 500,000 pre-registered users across mobile platforms, with the number shooting up to over 600,000 by February 10 (source: Gamebiz). Gree described this as “trending above our expectations.”
Despite it being increasingly difficult to attract pre-registered users in the highly competitive mobile game market these days, GREE stated that the latest Puella Magi Madoka game is currently doing well compared to the pre-release performance of the group’s past hit titles. The power of the IP, plus the large number of pre-registrations, has prompted GREE to state that they “have high expectations” for the game’s post-launch performance. As a side note, over on Steam the game has been gradually gaining traction since last July, with a current total of 8,636 followers (source: SteamDB).
Magia Exedra will be voiced and feature new story settings and characters based on the work of the anime series’ production designers Gekidan Inu Curry. Dungeon crawling through treacherous Witch Labyrinths, you will engage in command-based combat, uncover memories of missing Magical Girls and run into beloved characters from the anime series. Previously released previews of Puella Magi Madoka Magica’s battle system have drawn comparisons to games such as Honkai: Star Rail and the Trails series.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Magia Exedra is scheduled to launch in Spring 2025 for PC (Steam), iOS and Android.
