After years of development and a handful of teasers, Ultizero Games will finally release its ambitious action RPG Lost Soul Aside this May. While game development as a team began in 2017, initial work on Lost Soul Aside started way back in 2014, as a solo project.
According to a Famitsu interview with game director and Ultizero Games CEO Yang Bing, Lost Soul Aside began as his personal passion project. Over 11 years, Bing made sure to focus on the game’s combat. This includes gameplay aspects such as level design, enemy design, the feedback and smoothness of the controls, and the overall strategy needed to emerge victorious.
While gameplay is central to Lost Soul Aside, Bing states that the visuals and story are also important. After interdimensional beings called the Voidrax steal the soul of his sister, protagonist Kaser embarks on a journey across different worlds to save her. Kaser’s powers and shapeshifting weapon will allow you to push your way forward in a manner similar to other action games like Final Fantasy XV, Ninja Gaiden, and Devil May Cry.

Bing also mentions the difficulties of getting Lost Soul Aside off the ground. As a solo developer, he made the Lost Soul Aside prototype demo by himself. Impressed by Bing’s Demo, Sony’s China Hero Project (a PlayStation mentoring and support division for China-based game developers) supported him in founding the Shanghai-based Ultizero Games.
Once Ultizero Games was founded, Bing had to adapt to working with a team. The stark differences between solo game development and team development caused him to struggle and go through a slump. However, support from PlayStation, coworkers, and fans encouraged him to work hard with the rest of Ultizero Games to bring his passion project to fruition. With only a few more months to wait, Lost Soul Aside is shaping up to be one of 2025’s most anticipated titles coming from China.
Lost Soul Aside is scheduled to be released for PS5 and PC (Steam) on May 30, 2025.
