Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP dev goes into detail about exact changes made to the game’s “Original Mode” and what to expect from the Day 1 patch
Dragami Games’ Yoshimi Yasuda, the producer of the original Lollipop Chainsaw and its upcoming remastered version Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, recently took to his personal X account to address users’ concerns about the game. This includes assuring fans that the planned Day 1 patch will only include things like bug fixes, as there have been no requests from platform owners to alter or censor RePOP’s content, even in the Original Mode.
It was previously revealed that Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP will include two modes – a RePOP Mode that tones down the explicit violence in favor of pop-art damage effects, as well as an Original Mode that lets players experience the game in all its gory glory from 2012.
Perhaps in response to worried inquiries about how faithful the Original Mode will really be to the original Lollipop Chainsaw, Yasuda gave a detailed overview of what players can expect. According to the producer, the remastered version’s Original Mode will keep gore, cutscenes, character designs, animations, character introduction images and achievements completely intact. In other words, the game’s visuals seem to be unaltered, save for higher resolutions.
As for how the Original Mode will differ from the original Lollipop Chainsaw, Yasuda mentions that they have adjusted gameplay parameters to modern action game standards (this includes attack power, speed, combo input time and camera movement) and modified weapon mechanics and special moves. The remaster will also add an option to automate QTEs and make changes to the Ranking Mode.
Yasuda mentions going back to fix past errors too – “I have also fixed some of the incorrect implementations in the original version. Specifically, the cutscene that plays when you defeat the Zombie Big Chicken in the psychedelic world of Stage 3 has been changed from a cutscene to a slow-motion scene for defeating the gatekeeper zombie. This change was made to unify the rules for zombie defeat cutscenes. I have also fixed the chainsaw marks so that they appear on all buses, walls, roads, etc., except for plants and trees. Both of these were specifications that I overlooked during the final check of the original version, so I made the corrections in RePOP.”
Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP is scheduled to release on September 12 for the PC, Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X❘S. In November, the game will launch on PS4 and Xbox One.
