Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will let players jump for the first time in the series’ history
During the RGG Summit livestream held on September 20, Sega’s RGG Studio announced Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, the latest Gaiden entry in the Like a Dragon Series.
The upcoming title is a pirate-themed action-adventure game featuring recurring antagonist Goro Majima as the main playable character. This is the first time in the Like a Dragon series’ history that Majima Goro will appear as a single protagonist. However, that’s not all that’s new – Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will introduce jumps in combat, which is another first for the series.
Aside from finally including jumps, combat in the latest Like a Dragon title will revolve around two new fighting styles with a distinctly different feel from that of Kazuma Kiryu’s – the Mad Dog Style and the Sea Dog Style. Both are designed to express Majima’s unique quirks and personality, but the former will be a “classic” Majima style, acrobatic and speedy with lots of punches. Based on a short teaser clip shown, it seems Majima will even be able to spawn clones of himself.
On the other hand, the Sea Dog Style will be a “pirate” style, enabling Majima to double-wield swords, shoot guns, fire a wire hook to zap around the field and more. According to RGG Studio’s lead planner Ryosuke Horii, the combat is designed to be accessible even for less experienced players.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is scheduled to release on February 28, 2025 for the PC (Steam), PS4/PS4 and Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S
