Konami reports record high quarterly profits driven by Silent Hill 2 and other game releases
On January 31, Konami released its financial results for the first nine months of the fiscal year ending March 2025. Its Digital Entertainment sector (i.e. game sector) saw both sales and operating profit increase thanks to a solid line-up of profitable releases, like Silent Hill 2. According to GameBiz, this helped the Konami Group achieve record-breaking profit in the third quarter (October to December 2024), on top of their previously reported record highs for the first half of the year.
In particular, the success of the Silent Hill 2 remake was highlighted by Konami. Releasing in October 2024, the remake brought the chilling PS2-era psychological horror to players on modern hardware. It surpassed 1 million sales shortly after launch and has sold over 2 million as of January 2025.
Konami’s sports related games also did well. This includes two new baseball titles heavily featuring and endorsed by popular baseballer Shohei Ohtani of the LA Dodgers. As for catalogue titles, eFootball continued to enjoy strong demand, reaching over 800 million downloads across all platforms.
Net sales for Konami’s Digital Entertainment sector during the nine-month-period totaled 228,882 million yen (up 32% year-on-year), while operating profit amounted to 80,817 million yen (up 44.6% year-on-year).
Konami has a number of titles in the pipeline relating to major IPs. In remasters and remakes, they will release the Yu-Gi-Oh! EARLY DAYS COLLECTION (an anthology of 14 classic Yu-Gi-Oh! Games) on Steam and Switch, Suikoden I & II HD Remaster, and MGS3 remake Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater. The company is also continuing to develop two brand new Silent Hill titles.
The consolidated financial results for the entire Konami Group for the first nine months (April to December 2024) of the fiscal year ending March 2025 were as follows:
Net Sales: 310.829 billion yen (up 22.8% year-on-year)
Business profit: 817.143 billion yen (up 38.7% year-on-year)
Operating profit 86.7 billion yen (up 45.5% year-on-year)
Net profit 63.110 billion yen (up 41.8% year-on-year)
