Konami reports record high half-year profits thanks to strong performance of video game sector
On October 31, Konami released their latest financial report covering the six-month period from April 1 to September 30, 2024. Thanks to the steady performance of core content in Konami’s Digital Entertainment sector (i.e. video games), the company experienced record highs across all profit categories.
As previously reported, Konami’s sales and profits for the first quarter (April 1 to June 30, 2024) experienced an impressive year-on-year increase. Konami kept up this momentum in the interim period, with overall revenue increasing by 19.7% to 184 billion yen and business profit being up by 41.8% to 50.2 billion yen.
In Konami’s digital entertainment sector alone, consolidated sales increased by 28.9% to 131,650 million yen, while business profit amounted to 46,655 million yen (a year-on-year increase of 50.3%). In the report, Konami highlighted the strong performances of their sports game titles, including eFootball and its esports tournament. The July release of Powerful Pro Baseball 2024-2025, with its Shohei Otani-fronted ad campaigns and box art, was also cited as contributing to sales.
As for the rest of the fiscal year (ending March 31, 2025), Konami can likely expect healthy sales profits from the Silent Hill 2 remake, which was released on October 8. In just 3 days, the game surpassed 1 million copies sold worldwide. Konami reconfirmed in the report that they will continue to expand upon the popular horror franchise (presumably referring to mainline entry Silent Hill f and spin-off Silent Hill: Townfall, which are currently in the works).
Going forward, Konami also highlights the Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater remake of MGS3. Although the game still doesn’t have a confirmed release date, Konami is “working diligently” on producing the game which will “retain the core of the original title” with graphical, camera and interface improvements.
Konami is continuing to expand its esports activities. For example, in October, it began running the FIFAe World Cup 2024 in association with the International Federation of Association Football. The company is also holding three different baseball-based esports tournaments this year.
Konami’s overall consolidated results for the first half of the fiscal year are as follows:
Sales revenue: 184,084 million yen (+19.7% Year-on-Year)
Business profit: 50,217 million yen (+41.8% YoY)
Operating profit: 49.844 billion yen (+40.6% YoY).
Net profit: 36.401 billion yen (+35.7% YoY).
