Konami reports record-breaking profits, confirms upcoming releases for 2024 and beyond
On August 1, Konami reported record-breaking sales and profits for the first quarter of this fiscal year, and confirmed its pipeline of new game releases, including upcoming titles (as reported in 4Gamer and GameBiz). Although focusing on Japan-exclusive releases up until July this year, Konami has many global launches lined up for 2024 and beyond- including those from beloved IPs like Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill.
Konami’s sales and profits for the first quarter (April 1 to June 30, 2024) experienced an impressive year-on-year increase, reaching record-breaking highs. Sales revenue hit 90,039 million yen (up 24.0% year-on-year) with net profit for the period totaling 19.16 million yen (up 43.3% YoY). These healthy consolidated financial results were mainly thanks to the solid performance of Konami’s Digital Entertainment business (i.e. video games and the Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG). This included a continued strong performance from eFootball 2024, thanks to in-game additions and an esports tournament.
Konami’s game releases so far this fiscal year have focused on the Japanese market. All three games released between April and June were Japan exclusives (ORE’N, The Perfect Island for Grinding, and the top selling, yet buggy upon release Powerful Pros Baseball 2024-2025).
However, on August 6, Konami will launch a new IP worldwide. CYGNI: All Guns Blazing is being developed by Scottish studio Keel Works and is set to be published by Konami for PC (Steam), PS5 and Xbox X|S. CYGNI aims to elevate the classic vertical and side-scrolling shoot’em up, giving what looks to be a polished, modern take on the genre.
Coming up on October 8 for PS5 and PC (Steam) is the much-anticipated Silent Hill 2. The remake of the horror classic is set to take players right back into James’s psychological state, with original Japanese team members and Polish developer Bloober Team working hard to stay faithful to the 2001 game.
Beyond October 2024, Konami has confirmed that it has six global releases in the pipeline, however their launch dates are still TBD. These include remasters/remakes of popular franchises; Suikoden I&II HD Remaster (coming to PS4, Switch, Steam and Xbox One) and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam). The upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection (Switch and Steam) is a completion of retro Yu-Gi-Oh! games that were previously only released in Japan. Two more Silent Hill entries are also in the pipeline; mainline title Silent Hill f and spin-off Silent Hill: Townfall, however neither platform nor release date information has been made available for these games.
