Koei Tecmo’s latest financial report suggests a rich game lineup, including an unannounced AAA title
Koei Tecmo’s recent financial report not only revealed information about the company’s profits for the first quarter (April to June 2024), but also showcased a strong pipeline of new games to come in the latter half of 2024 and beyond. In addition to three announced console/PC games slated for global release (Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake, Dynasty Warriors Origins and FAIRY TAIL 2), Koei Tecmo is also working on a number of unannounced titles – including at least one triple A game.
For the first quarter, Koei Tecmo’s profits in its console video games sector centered on repeat sales of Rise of the Ronin. Koei Tecmo has set high hopes on sales targets for the open world action RPG set in historical Japan.
The financial report released on July 29 also gave an overview of what we can expect from Koei Tecmo’s in-house developers and brands in the future. Omega Force is working on the brand-new tactical action game Dynasty Warriors Origins (more about it here). This will be a major release, coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam) sometime in 2025. It will be the first full Dynasty Warriors title since 2018’s Dynasty Warriors 9.
Koei Tecmo will also release Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake (pictured at the top of this article) in October 2024, marking the 20th anniversary of the original game. It will be launched worldwide on PS4/PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam).
Meanwhile, Atelier series developer Gust is working on a new game called FAIRY TAIL 2, which is scheduled to be released this winter on PS4/PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam). The game is a sequel to 2020’s FAIRY TAIL, an RPG based on the manga series of the same name.
In addition to the announced games, Koei Tecmo is also working on several titles that have yet to be revealed. According to the financial report, otome game-focused studio Ruby Party is working on a new title that has yet to be revealed. Not only that, but Koei Tecmo’s new AAA Studio is also working on an unannounced game – which we can expect to be a major triple A title. As previously stated in a Famitsu interview with the company’s COO, Koei Tecmo’s mid-term management strategy is to consistently release titles that can sell 5 million copies, eventually making games capable of reaching 10 million units sold.
