Kiki’s Delivery Service meets Zelda in this much-anticipated cozy game coming to Switch and PC

Chibig have announced that their fantasy adventure game Mika and the Witch’s Mountain will be finally coming to Switch and PC (Steam) on August 21. With charming graphics reminiscent of children’s animations, the game has you don the pointy hat of Mika, an aspiring young witch who delivers packages around a small island.

Just like Kiki in Studio Ghibli’s classic movie Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989), Mika must hop on her broomstick and successfully distribute her parcels to their recipients. Her goal in this cozy coming-of-age story is to buy a magical broomstick powerful enough to take her to the top of the mountain to discover the secret as to why witches flock there.

The aim of the game is to do a good job delivering packages. Mika earns money and ratings from customers depending on how well she does her job. This allows her to buy better brooms as well as new costumes. Her job also gives her a chance to get to know the people of the island.

A Kickstarter campaign for Mika and the Witch’s Mountain was started in February 2023, with the release date originally slated for around October 2023. It has since exceeded its goal of €40,000, managing to raise €1,300,368 from 24,159 backers (as of July 27). On the game’s Kickstarter page, the developers talk about their influences- stating that Studio Ghibli’s films have always been a source of inspiration for their games, with Kiki’s Delivery Service being a particular favorite. “The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker was a great visual reference for the art of Mika and The Witch’s Mountain, especially the bright and vibrant colors,” they add.

Mika and the Witch’s Mountain is scheduled to be released on Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam) on August 21. There are also plans to bring the game to PS4/PS5 and Xbox One/Series X|S later in 2024.
