C2 Praparat, the developer of fleet simulator game Kantai Collection, has announced that it has resumed development of Plan [ki], a brand-new IP. The title is a fully 3D, historical sci-fi TRPG.
To give some background, project Plan [ki] was originally conceived at the same time as Kantai Collection, with an initial release window all the way back in 2011. However, due to Kantai Collection’s explosive popularity catching the developers off guard, the project was halted mid-development and subsequently went into a decade-long hiatus.
C2 Praparat never gave up on Plan [ki] though, as work on the project was resumed a few years ago, according to the new announcement. Although it started out as a passion project by a handful of developers (much like Kantai Collection), the scale of development has been expanded significantly for the reboot. The direction of the game has changed dramatically too, from the originally pitched “visual novel-style simulator game” to a 3D tactical RPG.
Plan [ki] is set in Japan’s early Showa era (1926 to 1989), but follows an alternate, sci-fi historical timeline where even mechs exist. It will introduce a new communication-based gameplay system, with character designs by Kantai Collection artists Konishi and Shibafu. C2 Praparat has shared four in-game screenshots showcasing Plan [ki]’s characters in combat, while hinting that more is to be revealed shortly.
Plan [ki] is currently in development for PC and mobile. The release date and distribution platforms are TBD.
