Perennial Dusk -Kinsenka-, a visual novel game by Frontwing, officially released for PC (Steam, DLsite, DMM) on May 29. While the DLsite and DMM downloads feature the full version of the game, part of the story has been permanently removed from the Steam version, citing “relevant ethical standards worldwide” as the reason.
Only two days before the official release, Perennial Dusk’s official X account posted a disclaimer about the content on Steam, stating that a portion of the game’s story has been removed from the platform to align with worldwide ethical standards. As the developers explained on X, in order to play the full game, players will need to download that part of the story as a separate expansion patch and apply it to their Steam download. The DLsite and DMM versions of the game are region locked, so if you live outside of Japan and want to play the game in English, you’ll have to buy it on Steam and then apply the expansion patch in order to fully experience the story.
On its Steam page and official website, Perennial Dusk -Kinsenka- is introduced as a kinetic novel telling an “intricate story about persevering through the horrors of a merciless world.” The description hints at a darker plot with possible psychological horror elements, with mature content disclaimers for “very strong violence,” “blood,” “strong language,” “alcohol and drug references” and other similar content. However, DLsite, which features the full uncensored version of the game, lists it as “for all ages,” which would suggest that there is nothing explicit about Perennial Dusk.
The clashing of content warnings on different platforms may make it a bit difficult to pinpoint the exact vibe of the story, but some of the staff members have confirmed that it gets pretty dark, so if you’re planning to play it just for the cute cast of characters, be prepared for some heavier topics to come up too.
Perennial Dusk -Kinsenka- is out now for PC (Steam, DLsite, DMM). The expansion patch for Steam can be downloaded here.
