Japanese indie dev’s upcoming shooter combines “Armored Core’s high-speed mech action with Ace Combat’s beautiful landscapes”

Omega Phenex Commenced Project Six is a fast-paced mecha shooter that draws inspiration from Armored Core and Ace Combat.

Fans of Armored Core who would love a little more oomph in the scenery department should watch out for Omega Phenex Commenced Project Six, a fast-paced mecha shooter that draws inspiration from the precision combat of FromSoftware’s iconic franchise and Ace Combat’s stunning visuals. Previously known under the working title “Project Six,” the game is being developed by Japanese indie dev Surumemanzyu and is set to release in 2027.

Omega Phenex puts you in the cockpit of the highly maneuverable and customizable Icarus mech. From skimming the surfaces of bodies of water to flying high in the skies, the main draw of the game is its overwhelming sense of speed. Icarus’s boost gauge, which is required to fly and maneuver quickly, refills at a moderate rate. This allows it to turn on a dime and easily avoid enemy projectiles.

Controls are similar to those found in first-person and third-person shooters, as you can switch between the two perspectives. As much as mecha fans enjoy the sight of a giant robot wielding a massive laser sword, Omega Phenex does not look like it has melee combat (at least not yet). While there is partial controller support, it seems the best way to experience combat is with a mouse and keyboard.

Similar to Armored Core, Omega Phenex allows you to freely customize your mech with parts and paint schemes. While parts will slightly change how the Icarus performs, its capabilities will largely be determined by the Tune mechanic, which allows you to spend currency to upgrade your mech’s parameters, such as its durability, mobility, and weapon performance.

Omega Phenex will have 30 missions with varying objectives at launch. These include extermination missions, exploration missions, escort missions (which are said to be “less stressful” than other mission types), and boss battles. There will also be an Arena Mode, where players can engage in one-on-one battles against an NPC-controlled Icarus (there is currently no mention of a multiplayer mode).

Omega Phenex Commenced Project Six is set to release in 2027 for Windows (Steam). An alpha version of the game is also available for purchase on Booth.com. Provided the PC version is successful, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch ports are also being considered.
