Japanese gacha RPG rejected by iOS review again, despite revising all in-game illustrations

Twinkle Star Knights has been unable to update on iOS since August.

DMM Games’ turn-based gacha RPG Twinkle Star Knights has once again been rejected in the App Store’s review process, even after developers say they redrew all in-game assets flagged for potential violations (source: ITmedia). For context, the game had been available on iOS since November 2023 without issue, but in August this year, it was suddenly blocked from updating after failing to clear the platform’s review.

After they were told that they’d have to revise not only content from the latest update, but potentially all metadata released to date, the developers took to creating a new build to re-submit for review. But in an update posted on September 29 via the game’s official X account, EXNOA (a DMM subsidiary) announced that the revised iOS build was rejected. They apologized to players and asked them to continue using the cloud version of Twinkle Star Knights until the problem is resolved.

According to the statement, the developers spent the latter half of September in constant negotiations with Apple, submitting a new version on September 24 that replaced or altered the artwork of all Star Knights (the game’s playable characters) which they assumed had been problematic. Despite these changes, the game was still judged to be “in violation of guidelines.”

EXNOA says it will continue discussions with the review team while making further revisions across “all metadata, including every illustration and animation” in the game. The publisher asked for patience and understanding from fans, and it seems intent to bring the iOS version back in line with platform requirements.
