Japanese dev set to make one of the longest credit rolls in indie game history after offering to include anyone who liked his X post

When he offered to add anyone who liked his post to his game's credits, he was not expecting the post to find over 200,000 users.

Since independent game studios are typically composed of small development teams, indie games usually don’t have that many people to thank once the credits roll. However, Studio At Home’s upcoming strategy JRPG Dragon’s Chronicles: The Dark Demon King and the Sword of the North Star is in the process of becoming a huge exception, as creator Takashi Mochibe has to make good on his promise to include every single X user who has liked his X post.

Post translation: I’m making the staff roll for the credits right now, but since the game’s being made by just one person and a few related individuals, I don’t have nearly enough names to fill it in.  If you are unrelated but okay with having your name listed in the credits, please give this a like. I’ll include everyone. If there are no applicants, I’ll fill it with about 100 fictional Vietnamese names.

Mochibe initially expected no more than ten people to answer his call. As of now, however, the post counts over 226,000 likes. Since X doesn’t allow you to view past a certain number of recent likers, Mochibe hasn’t been to keep track of everyone, and apologizes in advance for names he will not be able to include. Based on his last count, around 6,000 names have been included in the credits so far.

Post translation: Approximately 6,000 names have been entered with heartfelt care. The ending sequence is far too short, gradually encroaching on the original staff roll.

The credits (which are now 99% comprised of supporters and followers) have gotten so long that the footage used in the ending sequence has become inadequate to cover all the acknowledgements. No matter its final length, Mochibe says he will try to make good on his promise and create a two-part video showcasing as many of Dragon’s Chronicles’ supporters as he can.

Mochibe is grateful for the attention that his X post is getting, particularly with how the majority of its engagers are poking fun at the absurd number of people in the credits or comparing its length to that of AAA games with record-breaking staff rolls like Final Fantasy XIV. He tells Japanese webpage Otakuma that he is happy about the sense of unity that his unassuming post has provided, as it is a stark contrast to the daily influx of controversies and negativity on the Internet.
