Keika Hanada, game creator and head of NOVECT, reported on March 19 that The House in Fata Morgana sold 10,000 copies in a single week during Steam’s recent sales period. This comes almost 13 years after the game’s original release and 9 years after its Steam release.
Hanada expressed surprise and gratitude, reminiscing about how Fata Morgana used to sell only 70 copies a month when it was first released on Steam. The creator attributes the game’s persistent popularity to the enthusiasm of its players, who have helped spread the word. “I can’t thank you enough,” Hanada comments on X.
The House in Fata Morgana is a full-length suspense visual novel game in which the player investigates the mystery of a mansion, witnessing tragedies that occurred in different time periods involving various characters. The game was first released at Comiket 83 at the end of 2012, with a Steam version following in May 2016.

Ever since its release, The House in Fata Morgana has received high acclaim for its story and art from players worldwide. At the time of writing, the title has a Very Positive rating out of 4,400+ reviews on Steam, while the Nintendo Switch version of the game has a Metascore of 96.
In March this year, Steam held the Visual Novel Fest, in which visual novel games like Fata Morgana, VA-11 Hall-A Coffee Talk, Slay the Princess were discounted. During this period, Fata Morgana achieved sales of over 10,000 units in a single week. However, this was by no means a bargain sale, and the title’s commercial success is no doubt a result of its high evaluation and word of mouth. Another important factor is likely its availability, as the game supports seven languages and is playable on multiple platforms. In November 2023, Fata Morgana celebrated 100,000+ sales on Steam alone.
The House in Fata Morgana is currently available for the PC (Steam), PS4 and the Nintendo Switch.
