If you’re going to upgrade to a PS5 Pro, prepare for your cat to hate you

The PS5 Pro launched on November 7. While most people heading out to buy Sony’s new top range PS5 model will be weighing up the more obvious pros (improved graphics and performance) and cons (high cost, separately sold disc drive), those with a pet cat might want to find out whether Sony’s new offering gets a kitty seal of approval.

Last weekend, X user Millcats, a PlayStation gamer in Japan, earned an utterly disdainful response from their cat Mocha when they upgraded to a PS5 Pro. The photos speak for themselves, really.

Post translation: So, what’s wrong with the PS5 Pro? Well, you can tell by looking at this sour face… hardly any heat comes out of the back of the console, so it doesn’t get hot.
“It was my beloved PlayStation, but now-….!”

Standard PS5 models are thicker and tend to emit a fair bit of heat, especially during a long gaming session. It seems that Mocha was accustomed to pressing against the nice warm vents. However, the PS5 Pro does not kick out as much heat, disappointing cats but pleasing gamers who don’t like to worry about their console going nuclear.

Cats love nothing more than to snuggle up to something nice and warm, as any gamer with a feline friend will tell you. Millcats’ post prompted many other users to respond with photos of their own cats warming themselves on various consoles. It seems that flat-topped consoles in the horizontal position, like the PS4 and Xbox are most popular with cats.

Of course, it is not good for either your cat or your console to be in close contact with each other for long periods of time. It’s probably best to dissuade your feline buddy from snuggling up to your gaming machine, and here’s some tips for how to do that.
