Iconic Metal Gear voice actors lend their talents to stealth/action-adventure indie game Steam Dolls – Order of Chaos
Metal Gear Solid fans may be interested in SteamDolls – Order of Chaos, an indie title created by The Shady Gentlemen. Not only is it a story-driven, stealth/action-adventure title like Konami’s hit tactical espionage action franchise, but the game also boasts some of Metal Gear Solid’s iconic voice actors.
David Hayter, Jennifer Hale, and Christopher Randolph will lend their voices to SteamDolls – Order of Chaos. Hayter (the longtime English voice of Solid Snake and Big Boss) will be voicing The Whisper – a thief and anarchist looking to make his way through a dying maze of a comic book-inspired, steampunk city.
After the city’s scientists unearthed something that should have been left alone, its citizens were transformed into mindless monsters. It becomes your job as The Whisper to get to the bottom of the mystery surrounding the city’s downfall and survive the madness within. The Whisper will encounter various characters on his journey, including Gabriel (Christopher Randolph) and Stella (Jennifer Hale).
Randolph is the longest-serving English voice actor in the Metal Gear franchise, voicing Hal Emmerich/Otacon and his father Huey Emmerich. Jennifer Hale has voiced numerous characters in video games, cartoons, and films, but her biggest contribution to the Metal Gear franchise is providing the voice for Naomi Hunter. Whether Gabriel or Stella will be aiding or hindering The Whisper in his quest is a mystery, but it’s nice to see their voice actors in a single game again.
When it comes to gameplay, SteamDolls – Order of Chaos allows you to freely choose between combat and stealth on a 2D plane. Mixing both gameplay styles seems best, as there are times when you’ll find yourself overwhelmed by enemies or unable to progress while hiding. Deal enough damage to a foe and you’ll be able to perform a brutal finisher. Attack from an unseen position and you can assassinate unaware targets.
SteamDolls – Order of Chaos also has some puzzle-solving, hacking, and platforming elements to it, allowing you to explore the city and discover its secrets. While a lot of the voice cast hails from the Metal Gear Solid franchise, the game itself draws inspiration from titles like Hollow Knight and Castlevania (the latter of which is another classic Konami franchise).
SteamDolls – Order of Chaos is set to launch in Early Access on Steam this February 12, but a free demo has been available to play since October 2024. As the game is being made by a two-person team, it is expected to remain in Early Access for about one to one and a half more years.
