Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact won’t shy away from “overpowered” moves if it means being faithful to the IP
Since Bushiroad and Eighting announced Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact last December, more details about the licensed fighting game have started to emerge. The first trailer dropped in April, confirming that it will be a 2D 3v3 team fighter with anime graphics faithful to the series. However, a recent interview with Dengeki Online revealed more about what we can expect, with the developers giving some interesting comments on their approach to making the game.
Apparently, the Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact development team is full of Hunter x Hunter fans, and they’re doing their best not to compromise the essence and feel of Yoshihiro Togashi’s original series. This includes not hesitating to implement moves that might be considered overpowered in a typical fighting game – “When a move doesn’t feel like it’s supposed to or is too weak, we keep adjusting it until we’re satisfied.”
Hunter x Hunter fans can expect to see faithful in-game reproductions of unconventional moves such as Hisoka’s Bungee Gum, Netero’s Hyakushiki Kannon First Hand, and Killua’s Godspeed.
The cast of characters confirmed for Hunter x Hunter: Nen Impact so far includes Gon, Killua, Kurapika, Leorio, Hisoka, Netero, Uvogin and Machi Komacine. According to the developers, the first four characters are the best-suited for beginners, while characters such as Hisoka and Netero are recommended for seasoned fighting game players.
Asked by Dengeki Online about Hunter x Hunter: Nen Impact’s progress, the developers say they won’t keep us waiting for too long. In the meantime, we can expect to gradually receive updates with more information.
Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact is currently in development and planned for release on the PC (Steam), PS5 and Nintendo Switch.
