Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact likely not as low-budget as originally suggested
In a report to shareholders, Bushiroad corrected a previous statement regarding their console game development budgets, vowing to make solid investments towards worthwhile titles. Based on Bushiroad’s explanation, the budget for Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact’s development and marketing could be up to ten times higher than what was originally thought (Source: Logmi Finance).
Back in August 2023, Bushiroad representatives announced that the company would be investing about 100 million yen (around $650k) per console game in the following fiscal year. This relatively low figure (How much is 100 million yen in the game industry?) caused dissatisfaction and concern for Bushiroad’s future titles among Japanese users, which intensified in December last year, following the announcement of the highly anticipated Hunter x Hunter fighting game (Related article).
However, in a financial report from February 2024, Bushiroad Director Yuki Nemoto says that the 2023 statement had been misunderstood, offering a more specific explanation: “Actually, development costs for visual novels range from 40 to 60 million yen, while some of our console game projects range between 500 million to 1 billion yen, including development and advertising costs. We will make solid investments towards worthwhile titles and aim for new hits in the coming fiscal year.”
This means that contrary to the initially assumed 100 million yen, Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact’s development and marketing budget could be up to 1 billion yen. Furthermore, Bushiroad’s director mentions that the publisher is aware of the anticipation for the Hunter x Hunter fighting game (especially overseas) and will continue to allocate funds and resources toward the project.
Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact is currently in development and planned for release on the PC (Steam), PS5 and Nintendo Switch.
