Hideo Kojima never even heard about Konami being offered a Matrix game. “No one told me in all these 26 years”

Shockingly, it seems no one at Konami remembered to tell Hideo Kojima that the Wachowskis offered him a Matrix game.

Following Time Extension’s recent interview with former Konami executive Christopher Bergstresser, news broke about Hideo Kojima being approached by the Wachowskis to make a video game adaption of The Matrix –  an offer that fell through with a single “no” from Konami. The idea of the world losing out on a Matrix game directed by the creator of Metal Gear Solid has been pretty devastating for a lot of people, but Kojima himself has also reacted to the topic in light of recent reports.

Shockingly, Kojima says that it’s his first time even hearing about such an offer being made. “In all these 26 years, no one ever told me such a conversation had taken place,” he wrote on X. While Kojima and the Wachowskis were mutual fans who exchanged letters and even met up three times, there was no offer for a Matrix game made directly to Kojima or in his presence.

The creator explains that he was not present at the meeting between the Wachowskis and Konami’s CS division, where the offer was reportedly made. “When I arrived at the headquarters, their meeting with Mr. Kitaue, the head of the CS Division, had just ended. I joined them afterward, and we chatted for about an hour without an interpreter (Aki wasn’t even there).” But even after that, no one remembered to tell Kojima about the offer.

While it’s still doubtful whether Kojima could have accepted it then and there (he was extremely busy working on Metal Gear Solid 2), he says “if someone had told me, maybe there could’ve been a way to make it work.”
