Hi-Fi Rush IP’s revival paves the way for expansion of the game’s story

With video game publisher Krafton taking over the remains of Tango Gameworks and its Hi-Fi Rush IP, there is a chance for future projects to explore more of the franchise’s world. Most of Hi-Fi Rush’s narrative threads were tied up nicely by the game’s ending, but there is still enough room for Krafton to use the first game’s story as a jumping-off point.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Hi-Fi Rush’s endings.

Hi Fi Rush ending

Hi-Fi Rush ends with promise for the future

At the end of the main campaign, Roxanne Vandelay is reinstated as the head of Vandelay Technologies with Chai, Peppermint, Macaron, Korsica, and CNMN as high-ranking company members. Kale Vandelay’s mind control artificial intelligence SPECTRA is decommissioned and Kale himself looks to have died in an explosion. Things are looking good for Chai and the gang as they hop in a truck and head out toward a new adventure.

This ending could fit a wide range of potential Hi-Fi Rush sequels as it is rather open-ended. Kale could return in some way or a new foe could present themselves to rival Vandelay Technologies. This is not counting prequels or spin-offs, which are possibilities as well.

The game’s secret ending hints at a more direct sequel

Hi Fi Rush secret ending

While the main ending is open-ended, the secret ending that can be obtained by completing all the hidden SPECTRA doors is more focused. After entering the secret SPECTRA facility under Vandelay Tower, the heroes discover that everything they did was all part of a posthumous plan by Kale to restart the SPECTRA AI. Thankfully, a SCR-UB janitor unit accidentally unplugs SPECTRA, causing it to deactivate. To prevent SPECTRA from returning. Chai unceremoniously puts a “do not touch” note on the SPECTRA plug before leaving the scene.

If general storytelling has taught us anything, it’s that the SPECTRA AI will somehow turn on again, causing all sorts of trouble for Vandelay Technologies and Chai. It’s going to take more than a sticky note to stop evil from returning and this way, any future sequels will have a direct reference to the first game. Only time will tell what the future holds for Hi-Fi Rush now that it is in Krafton’s hands but honestly, the fact that the music-heavy franchise even has a future is more than enough.
