Jin Sakai employs several tools against his enemies in Ghost of Tsushima, but his primary weapons are his katana and tanto. Ghost of Yotei’s Atsu, on the other hand, carries more weapons than her predecessor. After losing her family as a child, Atsu will scour the lands around Mount Yotei for their killers and grow her legend.
In an interview with Famitsu, Ghost of Yotei Creative Directors Nate Fox and Jason Cornell revealed Atsu’s arsenal of weapons. In addition to the franchise’s iconic single katana, Atsu will be able to wield an odachi (a long samurai sword), kusarigama (a sickle attached to a heavy weight via a long metal chain), spear, and dual katanas. While the combat’s main focus is still on the katana, Fox says that Atsu will encounter different teachers on her journey who will teach her how to use new weapons and techniques.

Atsu will also be able to pick up and throw weapons dropped by defeated foes. Whereas Jin is constantly conflicted about whether to stick to the honorable samurai code or to adopt more sinister tactics as the Ghost, Atsu’s desire for revenge means she has no qualms about using everything at her disposal.
While the prospect of turning each defeated foe’s weapon into a deadly projectile seems fun, Fox says that there are limits to what Atsu can throw. Not all enemy weapons will be throwable, as throwing something like a heavy iron mace would either be overpowered or unrealistic.
It isn’t confirmed yet if Ghost of Yotei will retain the stance system of Ghost of Tsushima. If so, Atsu’s weapons will have more depth to them than players realize. Add in a wide variety of tools and throwable weapons, and Ghost of Yotei’s combat could end up being more expressive and diverse than its predecessor.
Ghost of Yotei is set to release on October 2, 2025, for PlayStation 5.
