Back in September 2022, Genshin Impact developer and publisher MiHoYo announced a partnership with Japanese animation studio Ufotable for a speculated anime adaptation of the open-world gacha RPG. The announcement was accompanied by a three-minute concept trailer, but in the following years, updates on the project have been sparse, and an airing date has yet to be announced. However, it seems fans have nothing to worry about – it’s just a matter of time.
While the Genshin Impact anime adaptation was originally announced as a “long-term project” between MiHoYo and Ufotable (thus hinting at a longer production pipeline), concern over its progress arose due to the anime studio reportedly being overwhelmed by work on Demon Slayer films. Ufotable stated in July last year that the workload of adapting Demon Slayer’s ongoing Infinity Castle arc required it to reassign staff from other projects, which got people speculating that the Genshin Impact project may have been negatively affected.
However, during the Genshin FES 2026 recently held in Shanghai, China, the game’s developer Aquaria commented on the collaboration with Ufotable. According to clips of the livestream shared on Bilibili and translated by Japanese fans, the Genshin anime project is progressing at a steady pace, and it hasn’t faced any issues or unexpected setbacks, contrary to speculation. Aquaria explained that much like in-game content, MiHoYo is carefully positioning the anime as a long-term project, and asked fans not to worry.
