Ganbare Goemon’s spiritual successor BAKERU to get Western release in September on Steam and Switch

Spike Chunsoft has announced that they will be bringing Good-Feel’s Bakeru to North America and Europe. The title is scheduled to be released digitally on September 3 for the PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch. A teaser trailer and Switch demo have been released as of August 13.

Bakeru is a 3D action-adventure game set in a disaster-stricken “fairy tale” Japan. A bizarre festival threatens to take over the country, and Bakeru the Tanuki is tasked with freeing Japan from the grip of evil spirits. Together with Sun from Issun clan, Bakeru sets out on an adventure to all 47 Japanese prefectures to defeat the Festival Troops. Bakeru uses a taiko drum to fight, as well as his ability to shapeshift. The game will combine traditional and modern Japanese motifs across 50 colorful stages.

The Good-Feel title initially launched in November last year under the title Otogi Katsugeki Mameda no Bakeru: Oracle Saitarou no Sainan!! However, it was available exclusively on the Japanese Nintendo eShop. With the game being produced by Etsunobu Ebisu, the creator of Konami’s Ganbare Goemon franchise, a lot of overseas fans have been  waiting for an English release. In addition, Bakeru’s director Tadanori Tsukawaki is credited on titles such as Nintendo’s Princess Peach: Showtime!, Yoshi’s Crafted World and Yoshi’s Woolly World, further raising expectations for the title.

The new release will not only bring Bakeru to English-speaking audiences, but will also add new attacks – Hurricane and Spinning Top, as well as a new enemy character called Lantern Boss.

Bakeru is scheduled to be released on September 3 for the PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch. Pre-orders are currently open on the Nintendo eShop with a 10% discount available.
