Games with free Christmas events in 2024
With just two days to go until Christmas, plenty of games are getting into the holiday spirit this year. If you need some festive cheer to warm your heart, then here are four games that have got you covered, with free Christmas updates this year.
*Please note that start and end dates of events may vary by region.
Stellar Blade
Like with its summer event earlier this year, Stellar Blade is also bringing players some more special outfits, new music tracks and a minigame this holiday season. However, you’ll have to put a little work in to find all the Christmas-themed cosmetics for Eve, Adam and the Drone that Shift Up has hidden away. A quick hunt around Xion should net you Eve’s sexy Santa Dress and the Drone’s (slightly odd) Rudolf costume. Heading over to Memory Steps and shooting the model Snowman with an Adam model sitting on it will unlock Adam’s comical I’m No Santa outfit.
Stellar Blade’s holiday-themed event was released on December 17. At the time of writing, it is not known when it will end. Just remember to switch on Season Event Content in the settings menu to make sure all the Christmassy stuff comes up.
Astro Bot
Team ASOBI’s charming, award-winning platformer is also getting into the holiday spirit with its free Winter Wonder event, which adds a whole new level to the game (more about that here). It also introduces some new mascot bots for you to unlock (no spoilers, but there are some nice additions here!)
Winter Wonder went live on December 12, but you can only play this new stage if you have cleared the main game.
Pokémon Go
Pokémon Go Holiday Part 2 features Dubwool and Wooloo will appear in cute holiday attire. You will be able to snag these limited-time Pokémon variants if you are lucky enough to encounter them in the wild- so it could be a good excuse to walk off your Christmas dinner. The game also offers a couple of Christmas sweaters to dress your avatar in, as well as raids against some wintery themed Pokémon, like Mega Abomasnow.
Pokémon Go Holiday Part 2 is set to run from December 22 to December 27, 2025.
Marvel Rivals
Winter Celebration brings a change of pace to the frantic PvP shooter with a brand-new Splatoon-style game mode called Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival, in which players get to cover the Yggsgard: Royal Palace gardens in frosty snowflakes. The event introduces five seasonal costumes- a free one for Jeff, while costumes for Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Venom and Magik can be purchased from the store. Completing missions during the Winter Celebration will give you Silver or Gold Frost, which you can use to unlock greetings card decorations so you can send your fellow players “Season’s Beatings” cards.
Winter Celebration will run until January 17, but some parts of the event are scheduled to finish before then- see the patch notes for more details.
Fortnite
Epic Games is known for adding some bizarre tie-ins and real-life people to its hit online game. If the kimono and disco ball-filled Matsuken samba performance wasn’t enough for you, Fortnite Winterfest 2024 brings Mariah Carey herself belting out “All I want for Christmas is You”. The event also features free gifts to unwrap each day at the WinterFest Cabin each day including a Yulejacket Outfit, a Peppermint Paraglider, and the Santa Dogg Outfit (Yes, a Snoop Dogg themed cosmetic). The shop features even more Christmas-themed items including a Mariah Carey bundle. Other additions include a snowy map update, special Winterfest quests and winter-themed weapons to add to your arsenal.
Fortnite Winterfest runs until January 7. More info can be found here.
