FuRyu has announced the new original title Varlet, scheduled to launch on August 28, 2025 for the PC (Steam), PS5 and Nintendo Switch.
Described as a game of self-discovery, Varlet is a high school life RPG that drops you into the role of a new transfer student at Kousei Academy. At the academy, you learn of the existence of alternate realms called Glitches. They are inhabited by monsters who have started to replace humans. Alongside your friends, you’re tasked with saving the school from falling apart.

Varlet’s gameplay will revolve around a school life system, battle system and a character parameter system. As the new leader of Kousei Academy’s unofficial life counseling club called SSS, you will listen to the concerns of your troubled peers, and after classes, you’ll be able to invite club members to hang out.
Battles will play out in a timeline-based command system that lets you intercept or cancel enemy attacks and launch consecutive counterattacks. As the story progresses, you’ll be able to choose between two battle styles, with one focusing on buffing allies in your party and the other focusing on powerful offensive skills (it seems this style will come with a quirk of damage coming back to you).

Lastly, Varlet will introduce a “triad” parameter system, whereby the choices you make throughout the story will influence a total of six parameters (divided into “light” and “dark”) that describe your nature. Depending on how you evolve these parameters, you’ll unlock different dialogue options and buffs for skills needed in battle.
Varlet is being co-developed by FuRyu’s Team Noir, the developers of Monark, and Aquria, who are known for their work on The Caligula Effect and the Sword Art Online games. The game’s scenario is written by Gakuto Mikumo and Megami Tensei developer Ryutaro Ito.
Varlet is scheduled to launch on August 28, 2025 for the PC (Steam), PS5 and Nintendo Switch.
