FromSoftware’s parent company reports growth of game sector driven by Elden Ring, plans to expand in-house PC and console game publishing

Kadokawa Corporation, the primary owner of FromSoftware, published its earnings report for the second quarter of the fiscal year (June-September 2024).

The company saw its video game sector grow significantly compared to last year, with net sales being up 10.9% year-on-year, and operating profit rising by 27.6%. Sales exceeded 10 billion yen for the first time since April-June 2022 (according to GameBiz), which was incidentally the quarter following Elden Ring’s initial release.

Kadokawa’s report for the second quarter of the fiscal year highlights strong domestic and global sales of Elden Ring and its new Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, which drove the performance of the entire business sector.

Going forward, FromSoftware’s parent company plans to expand its development pipeline as well as the scope of its in-house publishing of PC and console games. Kadokawa also aims to “maximize the lifetime value” of popular game IPs, starting with Elden Ring.
