Freedom Wars Remastered to launch in January 2025, testing the waters for a potential sequel
Bandai Namco Entertainment and Dimps Corporation announced Freedom Wars Remastered on September 18. With upgraded 4K graphics and other improvements, the remaster is scheduled to launch on January 9 for the PS4/PS5 and Switch. A Steam version will be released the next day, on January 10 (source: PRtimes).
The original Freedom Wars, developed by Sony’s Japan Studio, launched in 2014 on the PS Vita. The third-person action RPG transports players to a dystopian future where living itself is a “sin,” punished by a one-million-year prison sentence. You play a female or male protagonist who has lost their memory and must restart their prison sentence. To reduce their sentence and gain true freedom in a harsh world ravaged by pollution and scarcity, the player volunteers for dangerous operations, competing for the last of the planet’s natural resources.
Freedom Wars Remastered will revitalize this PS Vita classic in 4k resolution and 60 fps, with improved online co-op support, a reworked weapon crafting system, difficulty settings and new controls for more comfortable and intuitive gameplay.
As reported by IGN, the developers of Freedom Wars Remastered also have their hearts set on making a sequel to the game, depending on the remaster’s reception. Takashi Tsukamoto, who directed the original Freedom Wars and is producing the remastered version, commented, “What success would look like is for this game to do well, and well enough that we could take the next step into potentially releasing a sequel.” The developers apparently have “tons of ideas” on stock for a Freedom Wars sequel.
