“Find the impostor” sci-fi RPG Gnosia to get anime adaptation in 2025

Aniplex just announced that it will be adapting the Japanese indie gem Gnosia into an anime. The new series is set to air on Japanese TV in 2025. A teaser video (shown below) and images were released along with the announcement.

Gnosia is a single-player deduction game developed by Japan-based indie studio Petit Depotto. It first launched in 2019 for the PlayStation Vita, with subsequent releases on Steam and modern consoles. In Gnosia, you are a member of a crew drifting in a spaceship that’s trapped in a time loop. Your goal is to find out which member of the crew is The Gnosia, a mysterious and deadly threat pretending to be human, and eliminate them before they kill everyone and take over the spaceship.

Roles change between the game’s 15-minute rounds, and sometimes you get to be The Gnosia yourself. Gameplay revolves around engaging in discussions with other characters, analyzing what they are saying, and deducing the culprit. As you play multiple rounds, your character levels up and gains stat boosts, making it easier to sway the flow of conversations in your favor.

At the time of writing, Gnosia has a Very Positive status on Steam, with 94% out of 2,593 reviews being positive. The game also won first place at the Dengeki Indie Awards in 2022. Perhaps thanks to its favorable reception, the game was picked up by producers at Aniplex for an anime adaptation. The Gnosia anime promises to capture the game’s thrilling “find the impostor” showdowns, charming cast of characters and looping timeline.

According to a comment by Toru Kawakatsu, representative of Petit Depot, Gnosia’s development team is fully involved in the production of the anime.
