Final Fantasy and SaGa series veteran Kazuyuki Shindo leaves Square Enix after 27 years

Kazuyuki Shindo, who worked on games including Legend of Mana, Final Fantasy XIII, and SaGa: Emerald Beyond, has left Square Enix.

In a recent post on his personal X account, Kazuyuki Shindo revealed that he has left Square Enix after 27 years. During that time, Shindo worked on a variety of games in the SaGa, Final Fantasy and Mana series.

Post translation: On February 28, 2025, I left Square Enix, where I had the pleasure of working for 27 years, ever since the Square days. The Saga, Final Fantasy and Mana series are important to me. I would like to ask those who enjoyed these series and the games that I was involved in to continue to support both. My future plans are a blank slate. To be continued.

Starting out as a Monster Action Data Assistant on Legend of Mana and a map designer on SaGa Frontier 2 (both released in 1999), Shindo went on to be an event planner on titles such as Final Fantasy XIII and lead event planner on Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. More recently, he worked on 2024’s SaGa: Emerald Beyond as an assistant director.

In a follow-up post, Shindo expresses how much he enjoyed his time at Square Enix and how grateful he is to his mentors at the company. He hopes to continue working in the game/entertainment industry and is on the lookout for new opportunities.
