Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XIV support for Windows 10 will end on October 14, 2025. This is due to Microsoft discontinuing mainstream support (including security updates) for Windows 10 from the same date (source: The Lodestone).
No support does not mean that FFXIV will no longer work, though. Square Enix says “you will likely be able to play” even after support for Windows 10 officially ends. However, they will not be providing troubleshooting for any issues related to running the game on the older OS (as an exception; they may respond to select inquiries on an informal, case-by-case basis, but this is not guaranteed). FFXIV players will have to update to Windows 11 to continue receiving full support for the game.
Square Enix has provided updated OS/CPU requirements for Final Fantasy XIV’s Windows version (effective October 15, 2025):

For PC players who aren’t eager to upgrade, Microsoft is offering a one-year extended security update subscription for $30. There is also a free option that allows you to remain secure until October 2026, but it comes with some conditions like syncing your PC data to the cloud via Windows Backup.
As for Final Fantasy XIV, the MMORPG is also available on PS5, Xbox and macOS, with crossplay fully supported, so these versions can serve as alternatives should Windows 10 users run into issues.
