Fate series developer TYPE-MOON goes viral after fans discover it’s quietly running a charity to feed children
In the past two days, Fate and Tsukihime series developer TYPE-MOON has come into the spotlight in Japan for something completely unrelated to their portfolio of critically acclaimed visual novel games – namely, their humanitarian efforts.
As reported by Inside Games, TYPE-MOON (whose official corporate name is Notes Co., LTD) quietly established a charity organization called the “Notes’ Healthy Children’s Foundation” (unofficial translation) back in April last year. This seems to have suddenly come to the attention of fans of the company’s games, prompting a lot of surprised yet impressed reactions across social media.
The Notes’ Healthy Children’s Foundation funds the operations of so-called children’s cafeterias in Japan. These are volunteer-run public cafeterias that provide children with free or very cheap nutritious meals. In addition to supporting the cafeterias’ basic operations across Japan’s Chiba prefecture, TYPE-MOON is also providing subsidies for purchasing games and manga, with the goal of making these institutions a “place for educational support” for kids.
The foundation’s board of directors includes TYPE-MOON’s CEO Kunihiro Nasu (known better as Kinoko Nasu) and interestingly, the CEO of anime production company Aniplex.
On a related note, Ninja Gaiden developer Koei Tecmo made headlines just last month by setting up a foundation for children from single-mother-households.
