As of 2025, Lasengle’s Fate/Grand Order has been running for over ten years, making it far past the average life cycle of Japanese gacha games. Investigating the factors behind the mobile RPG’s longevity and success, Sensor Tower recently published interesting data about Fate/Grand Order and how much money its playerbase is spending (as reported by Otaku Soken).
According to the report (which analyzes data from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store), Fate/Grand Order has been downloaded over 12 million times in Japan between its launch in 2015 and August 2025, generating over $6 billion dollars in revenue. If we look at data from the past three years, it was the second best-selling mobile game in Japan, second only to MIXI’s Monster Strike in terms of cumulative revenue.

Not only that, but when it comes to average revenue per download in the past three years, Fate/Grand Order not only tops the charts, but sits way ahead of all of its competitors. The top five mobile games in Japan ranked by revenue per download were Fate/Grand Order, Monster Strike, Umamusume: Pretty Derby, Professional Baseballs Spirits A and Puzzle & Dragons. While the latter four titles range between $100 and $200, Fate/Grand Order’s average revenue per download ranges from $500 to $600, which Sensor Tower describes as “overwhelmingly high.”
Another factor unique to the game is how it acquires new players – while mobile games tend to acquire a large portion of their traffic through paid ads, for Fate/Grand Order, this accounts for less than 20%, which suggests a majority of players discover and install the game spontaneously. Sensor Tower attributes the game’s popularity to its high-quality storyline and gameplay, but also to the skilled way in which it is run.
As an aside, past research has also indicated that Fate/Grand Order has an unusually high retention rate for the genre, with 25% of new players continuing to play past the first 90 days.
