Extremely rare Final Fantasy 7 Lego set auctioned off for $12,500

One of two available LEGO sets based on Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII was recently sold on the Heritage Auctions website for a whopping $12,500. The LEGO set, which features the iconic scene where Cloud meets Aerith for the second time, was made as a tie-in for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Due to the set’s blocky nature, however, it more closely resembles the original Final Fantasy VII that was first released in 1997.

In 2023, Square Enix announced that it would be partnering with LEGO to create a brick model set based on Final Fantasy VII. Fans were asked to vote on which scene from the timeless classic would be recreated in Danish-made toy bricks, with the Sector 5 Slums Church scene winning.

After an intense fan vote, the fateful encounter between Final Fantasy VII characters Cloud Strife and Aerith Gainsborough in the Sector 5 slums was chosen to be recreated into a LEGO model. This exclusive set, created as a tie-in with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, was given away to a single lucky fan. Only two of these sets were produced. Measuring 41.5″ tall, 29″ wide, and 20″ deep, this massive, highly detailed diorama features Cloud and Aerith within the ruined sanctuary. According to the Heritage Auctions item description, the LEGO set measures 41.5 inches tall, 29 inches wide, and 20 inches deep. A TikTok video posted by Heritage Auctions better shows the scale of the set. The entire thing is preassembled and glued, save for the roof that Cloud unceremoniously falls through before messing up Aerith’s flower garden. That section is detached and needs to be connected manually, though Square Enix was kind enough to provide instructions to make assembly easier for the buyer.

It is unknown if the Sector 5 Slums Church LEGO set sold at Heritage Auctions is the same one that was given to a fan by Square Enix through social media site X. Another set was seen by Final Fantasy Remake and Rebirth game director Naoki Hamaguchi last January 2024 at the Square Enix London office, which could mean that Square Enix kept one of the LEGO sets for posterity’s sake. Whatever the case, fans are clamoring for more Final Fantasy-related LEGO sets to be made available for purchase.
