Elin, a prequel to the cult classic JRPG Elona, tops the Steam charts in Early Access
Lafrontier’s Elin (not to be confused with the unofficial game Elona 2) has been doing exceptionally well on Japan’s Steam charts since it launched in Early Access, going so far as to momentarily surpass Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds as the platform’s top-selling game on November 2 (as spotted by Game*Spark). The game’s initial concurrent player count upon entering Early Access on November 1 exceeded 11,000 players, and it currently has an all-time peak of 13,461 concurrent players.
A prequel to Elona, Elin builds upon the roguelike RPG elements introduced in Lafrontier’s previous game by improving base-building systems such as cooking and weapon creation. While Elona features a classic top-down camera, Elin uses a more complex quarter-view camera to showcase the game’s enhanced visuals. As with Elona, the main draw of Elin is the amount of freedom players have in an open world filled with both random and fixed content. You can craft items, build towns, raise a family, go fishing – pretty much anything you could think of when playing a cozy game.
Elin will remain in Early Access for at least one or two years. During this time, Lafrontier plans on including both main and side quests while further improving the game’s existing content. At the moment, the game has a Very Positive rating on Steam, with over 1,000 reviews.
Those who are interested in Elona and Elin can join the Elona Discord channel, where they can chat with the developers about the game and what improvements can be made to Elin before its full release.
Elin is available in Early Access for PC (Steam).
