Elden Ring Nightreign’s Cord End has only a 0.035% chance of appearing, leading many to theorize about deeper meanings

We know where Elden Ring Nightreign's End Cord is supposed to be used now, but it's extraordinary rarity and lackluster rewards suggest there could be more to it.

One of the biggest mysteries players faced during Elden Ring Nightreign’s launch was the purpose of the Cord End consumable item. While the mystery has since been solved, the low drop rate of the Cord End and its comparatively lackluster rewards have players theorizing that the item may be more important than it seems.

As discovered by YouTube creator Hawkshaw, the Cord End has a 0.035% chance of dropping from boxes in Churches. The Cord End opens the hidden door located on the side of the large valley in the center of Limveld, which leads to a tunnel and three Sacrificial Twig Talismans.

A step above its Elden Ring counterpart (which only prevents Rune loss upon death once before breaking), Nightreign’s Sacrificial Twig prevents Rune loss and Level Downs when dying for one use. The twig itself gets destroyed in the process while retaining your character progression.

As helpful as three Sacrificial Twigs can be for a party, the items are not exactly game-changers for more experienced players who have a grasp of Elden Ring Nightreign’s map and game systems. Add in the two-Talisman limit per character coupled with the Cord End’s low drop rate, and players think there may be more to the Cord End than meets the eye.

Some think that the Cord End is connected to the lore of the Roundtable Hold and the Nightfarers. Others speculate that a party composed of the Wylder, Recluse, and Duchess needs to find the Cord End, open the hidden door, and equip the Sacrificial Twigs on all three characters. As is common in FromSoftware games, solving one mystery can cause more to unravel. While all this speculation might end up leading nowhere, there is always a chance that more of Elden Ring Nightreign’s secrets will be uncovered in the process.

Elden Ring Nightreign is available for PC (Steam), PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
