During the FROMSOFTWARE GAMES EVENT Spring 2025 held on May 6, FromSoftware revealed more details about the upcoming co-op multiplayer-focused Elden Ring Nightreign. While it is no secret that Limveld – a procedurally generated version of Limgrave that serves as the game’s open world – plays host to characters from other FromSoftware IPs, Dark Souls fans will be happy to see familiar faces like the Gaping Dragon and Knight Artorias.
According to Famitsu, the Gaping Dragon spawned as a boss during the first day of a gameplay showcase run. Runs in Elden Ring Nightreign follow a three-day structure, with each day ending in a powerful boss battle. The Gaping Dragon was accompanied by music from the first Dark Souls, but whether this was the Gaping Dragon theme composed by Motoi Sakuraba or another track entirely wasn’t disclosed.
More interesting is the appearance of Knight Artorias the Abysswalker, who serves as a key NPC in Dark Souls. Artorias’ iconic armor has been repurposed in Elden Ring Nightreign as equipment for the Wylder class. Whether Artorias’ armor provides any buffs or is purely cosmetic remains to be seen, but it should be noted that the screenshot taken is from the game’s class select screen.
As Elden Ring Nightreign nears release, fans are wondering what elements from FromSoftware’s other IPs will make an appearance in the game. Dark Souls III’s Nameless King has already been confirmed as a boss, so who’s to say we won’t see nods to Bloodborne, Dark Souls II, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and maybe even Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon?
Elden Ring NIGHTREIGN will launch on May 30 for the PC (Steam) and PS4/PS5/Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S.
