Elden Ring Nightreign player pushes attack damage to very limit, reaches godhood for a moment before glitching out and becoming completely defenseless

Elden Ring Nightreign player tested the limits of the Marais Executioner Sword, farming mobs until damage cap - and then meeting his demise.

Elden Ring Nightreign weapons with the highest-tier rarity have unique effects that make them stand out. One of these legendary weapons, the Marais Executioner Sword, has an effect that increases the wielder’s damage with eachenemy they defeat. Japanese YouTuber and speedrunner mintius took the weapon’s effect as a challenge and pushed it as far as it could go, with surprising results.

Post translation: I hunted Wormface  mobs for about an hour with the Marais Executioner Sword to see what would happen. My attack power easily hit the visible damage cap at  9,999 after defeating 725 enemies.. The last damage value I saw for the Executioner Sword was 63,375. After defeating the 727th enemy, I was suddenly unable to deal any damage at all, and my character got killed.

Runs in Elden Ring Nightreign are timed, preventing players from getting too powerful and exploring too muchin a single playthrough. However, by abusing the infinite spawning mobs in the Wormface encounter and the lack of a time limit in boss fights, mintius was able to farm enemies to their heart’s content (this is also possible by farming the smaller spiders in the Duke’s Dear Freja Night Boss fight).

Unfortunately, there seems to be a problem with how Elden Ring Nightreign calculates the Marais Executioner Sword’s damage multiplier. When players deal more damage than the game can handle, it causes an “overflow” which resets the damage values to zero. Since the Marais Executioner Sword’s damage buff applies to all of your weapons (fists included), you could end up with no means to defend yourself.

In a recent interview with Automaton, mintius says that, while they were essentially stuck during his solo Marais Executioner Sword test, most players won’t run into the same problem in an online setting. Provided your teammates are playing the game as intended, they will still be able to progress the run (they just won’t be able to rely on you should you exceed the calculable damage multiplier cap). Given the rarity of the Marais Execution Sword and the number of enemies you need to defeat to get it sufficiently buffed up, it looks like the only way you can reach the damage multiplier cap is by playing solo or with a well-coordinated team.

Mintius plans on doing more tests with the Marais Executioner Sword now that they know how many enemies they need to defeat before it is rendered useless. Specifically, they want to see how much damage a plunging attack from the Marais Executioner Sword can do on a Flame Chariot from a sufficient height. If their calculations are correct, the resulting plunge attack could end up dealing tens of thousands of damage. Mintius just needs to be mindful of how many enemies they defeat prior to testing, or else they might end up dealing no damage instead.

Elden Ring Nightreign is available for PC (Steam), PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
