El Shaddai developer is cooking up something new… pancakes, apparently

El Shaddai director and character designer Sawaki Takeyasu has recently revealed that he is bringing the game’s characters to life in a rather sweet way. In a post on X, he explained that he asked a dorayaki shop to create tasty treats embossed with the faces of Enoch and Lucifer from the game- and provided photo evidence.

Post translation: I’m currently trying to get El Shaddai dorayaki made.
When I reached out to a dorayaki shop, they were very enthusiastic about the idea.
If they were to be produced, how about getting them as a year-end gift?

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is an action game known for its distinctive art style and unusual premise. It originally released on PS3 and Xbox 360 back in 2011, with an HD remaster coming out more recently on Steam and Nintendo Switch. However, it seems even diehard fans were not expecting to be tantalized by the prospect of El Shaddai dorayaki

For those who haven’t had the pleasure, dorayaki is a Japanese confection made of two pancakes with sweet red bean paste sandwiched inside. Nicely packaged in a box, they make a good gift, as Takeyasu suggests. In the comments, fans were enthusiastic about the idea- with both fans and Takeyasu making jokey references to well-known lines from the game. For example, one user joked that “It seems there will be 72 different dorayaki designs (for Enoch).”- referencing the game’s opening: “It’s the story of a man known by 72 different names.” Many commented on how funny the faces looked on the dorayaki without any outline.

Since being posted on the afternoon of September 3, the El Shaddai dorayaki post has racked up over 2.5 million views and 1600 retweets. Takeyasu has even changed his profile picture on X to the dorayaki
