Japanese publisher Waku Waku Games and indie developer 2.6 Billion Years Studio have announced that the deckbuilding roguelike RPG Drunken Rogue will launch for PC (Steam) on August 21.

The game follows the chaotic adventures of Lita – the titular drunken rogue – who ventures into dangerous dungeons leading to the Vampire King’s Castle in search of a treasured wine collection, rumored to be hidden away by Endo, the Vampire of Demise. As you progress in the game, Endo herself becomes available as a playable character, offering a whole new playstyle.

To reach the precious booze, Lita must clear multiple dungeons filled with traps, hazardous terrain, and demons. To survive, both Lita and Endo must use their unique abilities. Lita can evade danger with her Wind Cloak, while Endo can transform into fog and use magic spells. However, escaping danger comes with a cost, as every hazard you evade will return stronger on the next floor.

The central mechanic of Drunken Rogue is intoxication, with the characters becoming stronger as their drunkenness level increases (though in Endo’s case, she gets drunk from drinking blood). However, true to reality, the drunker the girls become, the less they’ll be able to tell what’s real, and they might even hallucinate. Even Lita’s faithful dog, Odysseus, may appear as a terrifying demon as her perception becomes increasingly distorted. The Steam store page humorously warns players to “drink responsibly.”

Drunken Rogue is scheduled to launch on August 21 for PC (Steam). A demo is also available.
