“Don’t worry, it’s an incredible game” The Hundred Line Last Defense Academy creator addresses fan concerns about stretched out budget

Danganronpa series writer Kazutaka Kodaka recently addressed concerns about the development of The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy pushing his company well over its financial limits. He assured fans that it’s going to be a niche but incredible game, suggesting that the risk Too Kyoo Games is taking isn’t a reckless one.

The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is a collaboration between Kodaka and Zero Escape creator Kotaro Uchikoshi. Fans of both creators and their games have been hyped since The Hundred Line was revealed in a Nintendo Direct broadcast last June. However, the game has been in the works for over 7 years, and Kodaka has been open about the amount of money the creators have poured into the project, joking that they are “risking their lives” for a game that has put Too Kyoo Games in debt

A user recently messaged Kodaka on X, voicing their concern about the amount of money that has been spent on the game and whether such a niche title will be able to recuperate its costs. Kodaka was quick to reassure them with the following reply:

According to Kodaka, it seems that both the story and gameplay are shaping up well. The creator has faith in the project and its success, saying “I truly believe in Hundred Line, the game we’ve built together! It might be niche, but it’s an incredible game, and I want to make it even more popular in North America!”

At launch, The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy will be available in Japanese, English and Chinese but Kodaka also mentioned that they will add localizations into other languages if the game is successful.

The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy, Too Kyoo Games’ first in-house IP, is set to be released in early 2025 for the PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch.
