Digimon Story: Time Stranger may have taken 8 years to make, but the team “is now gradually expanding in scale,” with various ideas for future games

Digimon Story: Time Stranger developers Ryosuke Hara and Yusuke Tomono talk about their team's expansion and future goals.

Launching in October 2025, Bandai Namco Entertainment’s Digimon Story: Time Stranger, was the series’ first new standalone entry in 10 years, taking 8 years to make after the release of Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth’s “Hacker’s Memory” expansion. While the new RPG launched to positive reception, becoming the series’ fastest-selling entry to date – its long development cycle has inevitably been a source of concern for some fans, who hope they won’t have to wait another eight years before another Digimon game is ready to come out. The developers recently addressed this topic in an interview with 4Gamer

Ryosuke Hara, Time Stranger’s producer at Bandai Namco Entertainment, and Yusuke Tomono, the game’s director at 24Frame, had some good news for fans when it comes to the IP’s future. “We’re currently placing a strong emphasis on collaboration with Toei Animation and other affiliated companies when it comes to Digimon content. Through these efforts, we aim to grow the Digimon IP as a whole, while continuing to put effort into games,” Hara explains. Regarding development time, he notes that “This time, it took us eight years, but the Digimon team is now gradually expanding in scale and working on establishing a structure that will allow us to grow in a sustainable way.”

It seems the team already has “various things in mind,” and Hara encourages fans to look forward to future Digimon releases.  Regarding the nature of future games, Tomono comments that Time Stranger was developed with the goal of presenting Digimon in a way that would be appealing to a broader playerbase, including adults. For subsequent projects, he says he would like to aim for something new again, like a Digimon game that could serve as an entryway for people who aren’t familiar with the franchise at all.

While they haven’t confirmed any specific plans yet, it seems the devs are reassuring fans that the team is growing and that future developments in the series may become faster than what we’ve seen so far, both when it comes to games and the Digimon IP as a whole.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger is out now for PC (Steam), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

  1. This game is amazing, I’ve put 100 hours into it and nearing the end of the main story. I also love how many hot babes are in the game.
