Development of upcoming Princess Maker game is back on track with new studio after entire production team got laid off mid-early access

Princess Maker: Children of Revelation has resumed production after abrupt restructuring of its development studio D-ZARD.

South Korean development studio D-ZARD recently announced that Princess Maker: Children of Revelation, the first new mainline entry in the classic Princess Maker series since 2007, will be finally resuming production after almost half a year of silence (Source: ThisIsGame). Developed under an official license from Gainax, the title launched in early access on Steam in July 2025, with a full release slated for the first half of 2026. But despite the game’s overwhelmingly successful crowdfunding campaign, the development had to be indefinitely halted due to the studio undergoing major restructuring, and the project was set to be handed over to an external company.

Via its crowdfunding campaign hosted on Tumblbug in 2024, D-ZARD managed to collect about $250k in funding for Princess Maker’s development, counting over 4,800 backers and surpassing the original goal by over 350%. However, only a couple of months after the game launched in early access, it was announced that all of the team members who worked on the new Princess Maker had left the studio, and that the project was in the process of being transferred to an external company. The announced updates for the game were also to be postponed. As ThisIsGame reported, the studio counted 38 employees in July 2025, but just two months later, in September, that number dropped to just 7.

Princess Maker: Children of Revelation

In January 2026, it was announced that the Princess Maker: Children of Revelation would finally continue working on the project through a new partnership with studio GEAR2, developer of mobile idle RPG Slayer Legend. As it was explained in an announcement on Steam, these past few months, D-ZARD was busy rebuilding its development environment and “had been facing numerous difficulties throughout the contract process.”

The development team promises to deliver the full game in the first half of 2026, and explains that they have been working on making significant changes to various game elements based on player feedback. However, they also note that, due such changes and adjustments being made, “maintaining compatibility with existing save data has become increasingly difficult.” This means that the saves (including auto-saves) you’ve made playing the early access version will most likely not be preserved once the game is fully released.

Princess Maker: Children of Revelation is set to release in the first half of 2026 for PC (Steam).
