2025 has been a big year for Deltarune, with the game’s first and second chapters getting an official multiplatform release alongside the long-anticipated third and fourth chapters. To cap things off, creator Toby Fox has released a Winter 2025 newsletter, shedding some light on the development team’s plans for the next year and providing fans with a status update on the upcoming Chapter 5. According to Fox, the new chapter might be ready to launch in only a few months.
In the newsletter, Fox states that development of the fifth chapter is “going excellently.” Localization for the chapter is already in progress, with Japanese game localization company 8-4 and Fox himself annotating the extracted text for a translator (who has already started working on the game, according to Fox’s post on Bluesky). After finishing the localization process, the dev team will move on to testing the PC version. According to Fox, plans for console testing could start as soon as January 2026.

Don’t freak out; this is just a screenshot from Chapter 1.
As for the chapter itself, all of the rooms are nearly done, though the backgrounds might require some polishing. Almost all of the scenes are complete, with only a few of them requiring visual touch-ups. The same goes for battles, most of which are finished, save for a few that need some pacing and bullet pattern adjustments. Fox also released a short video from Chapter 5’s Castle Town hub, along with anew musical piece, which according to him, is “the only one that does not spoil anything.” These can be viewed from the official newsletter.
Given Chapter 5’s current development timeline, Fox estimates that it will take “several months to release the game from where we are now” – a statement even he is surprised about, considering how long it took to complete Chapters 3 and 4, which were finally released only six months ago. While he didn’t give any actual release date, it is safe to assume that Chapter 5 will launch sometime in 2026. He adds that in a few months, he and most of the team will likely be focusing their attention on developing the penultimate Chapter 6. As promised, those who already purchased Deltarune will receive the future chapters for free.
