Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is even weirder than the first game, Kojima says
Whether it’s the bizarreness of the overall creative vision, the cryptic plot and storytelling, or small details like throwing pee and poo grenades at enemies, Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding has rightfully earned itself the top spot among a lot of peoples’ rankings of weird games. But it seems the 2019 “strand game” is about to be out-bizarred by its upcoming sequel.
During the “PlayStation Presents DEATH STRANDING 2 Special Stage” held during Tokyo Game Show 2024, Hideo Kojima commented on the current state of the sequel. “It’s not finished yet, but I have a good feeling about it, and it’s even weirder than the first game (laughs). As I work on it, I keep wondering if there’s any game like this out there.” (source: Famitsu).
So far, Death Stranding 2 seems to be living up to Kojima’s words with the recent unveiling of a highly realistic photo mode, which is definitely unlike anything players have ever seen before. The game will also include a mysterious in-game musical event including a dancing Dollman and the Japanese singer-songwriter Daichi Miura.
Kojima is currently in the process of playing Death Stranding 2 day and night to perfect the game’s balance, music and direction – which he says is the most important and most fun stage of development. The director revealed that Death Stranding 2’s release date has been decided, however the team is not ready to share this information yet. Kojima did confirm, however, that the release date announcement as well as Death Stranding 2’s launch itself will be coming in 2025.
