Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster’s rugged Lan Hikari skin freaks out Japanese Mega Man fans
Continuing its penchant for strange Capcom tie-in costumes, the upcoming Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster recently revealed its Lan Hikari costume for Frank West. Accompanied by the “Hometown” track from Mega Man Battle Network (Rockman EXE in Japan), the costume has gotten Japanese fans talking about this older, stockier version of Lan.
Known as Netto Hikari in Japan, Lan is predominantly depicted as a slim pre-teen in the Mega Man Battle Network franchise. While Frank West sports Lan’s iconic spiky brown hair, blue bandana, and white long-sleeved shirt and orange vest combo, his penchant for killing zombies gives away his true identity.
Japanese Mega Man fans have different reactions to the costume. Some are ecstatic for Lan Hikari to save the Willamette Parkview Mall, and are expressing their excitement by voicing iconic Lan Hikari lines such as “Slot In!” and “Perfect Synchro Site Style Plug-in!”.
Others are more focused on Lan Hikari’s physique in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. Positive remarks like “Rugged Neto-kun” and “What a great build!” allude to Frank’s strong appearance. Ironic comments such as “Netto has aged” and “This Frank has a young mental age lol” are more focused on the comical implication of Frank dressing like a prepubescent boy.
It’s all in good fun though, as the Lan Hikari costume and the fan comments celebrate the inclusion of Mega Man content in more Capcom games. Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster may have cut back on the original’s more sensitive themes like “Erotica” points, but silly cosmetics and creative zombie-killing methods are here to stay.
