Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster makes the original’s save system more forgiving

Capcom’s Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, a reworking of the 2006 zombie-fighting action game, is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 19. The game will feature various quality of life improvements- with changes to the save system recently being revealed. In addition to the original Dead Rising’s options that allow players to restart from their last manual save or start the game from the beginning with their current stats, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster will include an auto-save system that allows them to pick up from the last area they visited. Discovered by YouTube channel Boomstick Gaming, this new checkpoint system makes things much more forgiving for players.

As mentioned by Boomstick Alex, there is a “secret, behind-the-scenes checkpoint that the game saves” every time players enter a new area. Should they find themselves overwhelmed by zombies, psychopaths, or environmental hazards (or simply want to reload to an earlier point in the game), they can quickly choose the “Continue” option from the game over screen and pick up where they were a few minutes ago.

Much like Capcom’s own Resident Evil games, the first Dead Rising only allowed saving at certain locations such as bathrooms and select safe areas throughout the Willamette Parkview Mall. Players would occasionally find themselves losing hours of progress if they forgot to save, making it frustrating to return to the game after a long run got wiped. This auto-checkpoint system makes it easier for players to get into Dead Rising’s core gameplay loop while leaving the classic options available for those who want a challenge.

This is another way Capcom is making Dead Rising more approachable to a modern audience. Earlier this month, Capcom announced that Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster will not award Erotica points for taking risqué photographs as photojournalist Frank West. At the same time, the remaster will take advantage of modern graphical capabilities to ramp up gore levels. Those who found the original Dead Rising’s save system to be unforgiving may want to try the remaster when it releases later this September.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is scheduled to be released on September 19 for the PC (Steam), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
