Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster lets you be a skateboarding Licker right out of Resident Evil
Hot on the heels of its Leon S. Kennedy costume and music announcement, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster unveiled yet another two pieces of Resident Evil-themed DLC content, this time centered on the biomutant Licker. But instead of replacing the game’s zombies with said character model as most people would expect, players will be able to outfit Frank West (i.e. themselves) in the Licker’s skin. Talk about creepy.
The Licker costume that replaces the Frank West model is a bit… strange. For starters, the biomutant walks on its hind legs and uses human speech. It can also see, as evidenced by it pointing at a survivor. But by far the strangest (and funniest) part of the promotional trailer is when the Licker hops on a skateboard ala Tony Hawk and starts cruising through the Willamette Parkview Mall. The number of funny scenarios players can create and find themselves in with this costume seem endless thanks to the Licker’s strange posture and massive lolling tongue.
Accompanying the Licker costume is the background music “Looming Dread”, which comes from the Resident Evil 2 remake. The song plays during The 4th Survivor side content (the one where you play as Umbrella operative HUNK), which is why it has a higher tempo than most Resident Evil tracks. “Looming Dread” fits well in an action-oriented game like Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, as players will be more worried about running out of ways to kill zombies than getting killed by them.
Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster releases on September 19 on PC (Steam), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
