Given Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s popularity, it comes as no surprise that people want to put aspects of the game into other titles. Upon discovering that Renoir and Verso were modded into Tekken 8, Expedition 33’s associate producer Vincent Constantin and game designer Victor Deleard took a break from working on the turn-based RPG to play some good-ass Tekken.
The mod in question was created by Tekkenmods user PaRaDin, and it replaces certain cosmetics for Tekken 8’s Victor and Clive with clothes and hair fitting Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s Renoir and Verso respectively. While the clothing colors cannot be changed, PaRaDin was kind enough to include the option to change both characters’ hair colors.
Both characters still move and act like their regular Tekken selves when in a match. Coincidentally, Victor’s nationality and spoken language help add to the authenticity, as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a game made by French developers. Clive Rosfield and Vero also share the same English voice actor (Ben Starr), making it easy to imagine that Verso was isekai’d into the fighting game.
The official Tekken and Bandai Namco X accounts, as well as Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada, commended the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 developers on how they spend their time off. Harada even noticed Delard’s use of a leverless controller, calling him a “serious fighting game player.” Despite the difference in genre, it’s nice to see the games’ creators lifting up (and playing) each other’s work. Considering Tekken 8’s upcoming fourth season 2 character is supposed to be a new challenger, it wouldn’t be entirely impossible to see a Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 character appear as a guest fighter.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is available for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X|S.
